Tatun Golf Club – A Tranquil Retreat in the Mountains
Located in Tamsui District, New Taipei City, Tatun Golf Club is nestled in the lush foothills of Tatun Mountain, surrounded by serene greenery and picturesque landscapes. Established in October 1974, the course officially opened to the public in June 1980, with its 18-hole championship layout fully completed in 1987. Designed by Chen Jin-Shi, known as the “Father of Taiwanese Golf”, the course harmonizes with the area’s natural terrain, preserving the original farmland and forested scenery while offering a tranquil and immersive golfing experience.
Tatun Golf Club’s 6,548-yard layout may not be the longest, but it presents a strategic challenge. The narrow fairways, lined with dense trees on both sides, require precise shot placement, making accuracy more critical than power. Players are encouraged to adopt a conservative strategy, focusing on keeping the ball in play rather than taking aggressive risks.
One unique characteristic of this course is the placement of most OB stakes along the right side of the fairways, posing a significant challenge for golfers who tend to slice their shots. Those prone to rightward shots may need to ensure they have plenty of extra balls in their bag before teeing off.
Beyond the challenge, Tatun Golf Club is often regarded as North Taiwan’s “Garden Course”, offering breathtaking scenery throughout. Golfers can enjoy rolling green fairways, majestic mountain backdrops, stunning ocean views in the distance, and well-manicured greens complemented by a variety of vibrant flowers and tree species. This unique blend of natural beauty and strategic course design makes Tatun Golf Club a favorite among local golfers seeking both challenge and tranquility just outside of Taipei.
